American Journal of Analytical Chemistry (AJAC) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ajac.2011.24060
Abstract: Comprehensive analytical methodologies are exceedingly needed in order to evaluate product quality and raw material specifications especially for botanical preparations. Advances in teaming up statistical (PCA, CA & pattern recognition techniques) and spectroscopic (UV, IR, MS & NMR) methods of analysis have generated a substantial impact on how to use spectroscopic instruments as intelligent modules capable of identifying and classifying the composition of a variety of natural products. Cymbopogon proximus, a traditionally used medicinal herb claimed to be an effective remedy for renal spasms, lacks appropriate evaluation procedures. UV assisted-PCA and PLS analysis were exercised herein to maximize the usefulness and applicability of some previously established analytical specifications for herbal materials (e.g. solvent extractive values). Hierarchical cluster analysis was also attempted to categorize and associate the generated solvent-extracts. In addition, DE-TLC and GC were used to examine the different plant fractions in a qualitative and quantitative manner.

Journal of Computer and Communications (JCC) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jcc.2017.57011
Abstract: The purpose of this article offers different algorithms of Weibull Geometric (WG) distribution estimation depending on the progressive Type II censoring samples plan, spatially the joint confidence intervals for the parameters. The approximate joint confidence intervals for the parameters, the approximate confidence regions and percentile bootstrap intervals of confidence are discussed, and several Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques are also presented. The parts of mean square error (MSEs) and credible intervals lengths, the estimators of Bayes depend on non-informative implement more effective than the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) and bootstrap. Comparing the models, the MSEs, average confidence interval lengths of the MLEs, and Bayes estimators for parameters are less significant for censored models.

Open Journal of Modern Neurosurgery (OJMN) , 2020, DOI: 10.4236/ojmn.2020.103034
Abstract: Background: Fixation of bone flap following craniotomy is usually achieved by synthetic materials. In rural and poor funding areas, innovation for cheap, safe and applicable material is needed. Purpose: The aim is to assess our new innovative technique in bone flap fixation against traditional techniques. Patients and Methods: The study was a prospective randomized controlled study enrolled at Al-Amal Hospital and Al-Ahly Bank Hospital from 2014-2019. Forty-eight patients were randomized in the study. Group A (24 patients) underwent titanium miniplate fixation while group B (24 patients) underwent our new technique. The new technique is double J tunnels performed by craniotome on either side of the bone (flap and skull sides), then a Prolene suture is passed through the shared stem of J’ holes and secured in the wrapped side of J’s holes and tying it tightly. Both techniques were examined against fixation time, rigidity, offset and final judgment postoperatively. Result: There was no statistically significant difference in using both techniques as regard fixation time. Our new technique was not inferior to the traditional one in achieving rigidity (p > 0.05). The final postoperative assessment was as equal as that seen in miniplate fixation. Conclusion: This technique is a simple, easy, cheap and effective method of fixing craniotomy bone flap.
Influence of Semi-Solid Isothermal Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Ductile Cast Iron  [PDF]
Mohamed Ramadan, Naglaa Fathy
Journal of Minerals and Materials Characterization and Engineering (JMMCE) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jmmce.2014.21005
Abstract: In this research, the effect of semi-solid isothermal heat treatment on microstructure, hardness and impact toughness of ductile iron (DI) is studied. Heat-treated air-cooled ductile iron shows spheroid graphite, cementite and fine pearlite matrix structure. At the early stages of heating time (up to 20 min), the DIs show significant decrease in amounts of graphite and significant increase in amounts of cementite. By increasing heating time, above 20 min, the DIs show slightly decrease in amounts of graphite and slightly increase in amounts of cementite. Hardness values increase by increasing heating time. Meanwhile, the impact toughness decrease with increasing heating time. The optimum heating treatment condition for reasonable structure and mechanical properties could be achieved at the temperature of 1165℃ for the heating time range of 10 to 15 min.
Endoscopic Endonasal Approach to the Lateral Wall of the Cavernous Sinus: A Cadaveric Feasibility Study
Ahmed Hegazy,Ahmed Hussein,Hesham Fathy,Mohamed Fathy,Mohamed Kamel,Sameh M. Amin
- , 2018, DOI: 10.1177/0003489418803386
Abstract: A transcranial extradural approach to the middle cranial fossa (MCF) requires separation of the dural layers of the lateral wall of the cavernous sinus. The authors tested the feasibility of an endonasal approach for this separation. A cadaveric feasibility study was conducted on the sides of 14 dry skulls and 10 fresh cadaveric heads. An endonasal, transsphenoidal, transpterygoid approach was taken to the MCF. The maxillary struts and medial greater wing of the sphenoid below the superior orbital fissure were drilled with transposition of the maxillary nerve. The lateral cavernous dural layers were split at the maxillary nerve with separation of the temporal lobe dura and exposure of the MCF bony base. The integrity of the cranial nerves and inner and outer dural layers of the lateral cavernous wall was checked. Different measurements of bony landmarks were obtained. The integrity of the dural layers of the lateral cavernous wall and the cranial nerves were preserved in 10 heads. The mean area of the bony corridor was 4.68 ± 0.97 cm2, the V2-to-V3 distance was 15.21 ± 3.36 mm medially and 18.21 ± 3.45 mm laterally, and the vidian canal length was 13.01 ± 3.06 mm. Endonasal endoscopic separation of the lateral cavernous dural layers is feasible without crossing the motor cranial nerves, allowing better exposure of the MCF

Abstract: Two new selective, precise, and accurate methods were developed for the determination of fenofibrate in the presence of its basic degradation product. In the first method fenofibrate was determined using an algorithm bivariate calibration derivative method, in which an optimum pair of wavelengths was chosen for the determination of different binary mixtures. In the second method (HPLC), separation was achieved on RESTEK Pinnacle II phenyl column (5 µm, 250 × 4.6 mm) and Pinnacle II phenyl (5 µm, 10 × 4 mm) guard cartridge using a mobile phase consisting of methanol –0.1% phosphoric acid (60:40, v/v) at a flow rate 2 mL●min–1, and the column oven temperature was set at 50°C. The UV detector was time programmed at 302 nm and 289 nm for the internal standard (I.S.) and fenofibrate, respectively. The proposed methods were successfully applied for the determination of fenofibrate and its degradation product in the laboratory-prepared mixture and in pharmaceutical formulation. The assay results obtained using the bivariate method were statistically compared to those of the HPLC method and good agreement was observed.
